Far Cry 6 is arguably one of the most anticipated of 2021 – even more so thanks to the constant delays it experienced throughout its journey to the original (and canceled) February 18, 2021 release date. It has since been moved back to its new release date of October 7th, 2021 – reigniting excitement amongst fans of the franchise.
The new upcoming first-person shooter from Ubisoft is the sixth chapter of the Far Cry series, offering up the same intense storylines and explosive characters as the ones that came before it. It will be set on Yara Island, a fictional Caribbean island that is ruled by dictator ‘El Presidente’ Anton Castillo.
As Ubisoft starts to release marketing material for the game, naturally, fans start to question how the new title differs from its predecessors. One of the big questions many are asking is, what is the Far Cry 6 map size? Seeing as though it’s such a hot topic, we thought to cover it in full. Let’s take a look.
How Big Will Far Cry 6 Map Be?
So, exactly how big will the new Far Cry 6 map be? If previous years are anything to go by, chances are, it’ll be pretty sizeable. However, thanks to an official post from the Far Cry 6 game Twitter account, we don’t have to speculate too much.

Lead Game Developer David Grivel goes on to talk about the size of the map and how it’s the biggest the team has designed since the franchise’s arrival.
“Far cry 6 is the biggest map we’ve ever created for a Far Cry game. It is a whole country, it has military infrastructures, ports, towns. It has a capital city which is Esperanza and Esperanza is also the seat of power of Anton, which means it’s heavily guarded.”
How Big Is Far Cry 6 Map Compared To Older Far Cry Maps?
Well, taking what David Grivel said into consideration, alongside some external research done by Conor Kearney, we can expect the Far Cry 6 map to take at least 60 minutes to walk across.
He has been measuring open-world maps for some time now, timing how long it takes to walk across a map in order to get an idea of its size.
Luckily for us, he took the time to play many of the original Far Cry games and has timings to suggest their respective sizes:
- Far Cry 2: 48 minutes
- Far Cry 3: 49 minutes
- Far Cry 4: 48 minutes
- Far Cry Primal: 42 minutes
- Far Cry 5: 54 minutes
Utilizing this data, alongside the fact that the Far Cry 6 map will be the biggest yet, we can start to paint a picture of just how large Yara Island is. The Caribbean island should be one of the most exciting yet, packed with storylines that grip, characters that entice, and action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Bring it on.
